HASTINGS FARM

Descendants and friends of Hastings Village are particularly invited to join us build a guaranteed role model in agriculture which will doubtlessly be the envy of the Western Area.
Also descendants from other Communities like Grafton, Jui, Newton, Devil Hole, Rokel are more than welcome.

REMEMBER~~ Hastings and Jui Junction were the biggest casualties in the savage campaign by Johnny Paul and his clans in June 1997.
Churches, Mosques, Markets, Post Office, Schools, Freetown Teachers Training College, Village Hall, Police Training School, Hastings Airport, Poultry and Pig Farms and most of all private dwellings and properties were looted and burnt down.
Scores of people were murdered and not more than a dozen houses are without scares of that hideous campaign.
Rebuilding the various facilities is the only option we have on self-help bases.
Join us to rebuild our farm.

CAMPAIGN AGAINST
 DEFORESTATION

Hastings Farm is has moral obligations to the Hastings environs and the whole of the Country for the prevention of erosion and deforestation at least for our children. The biggest cause of which is tree-felling for fire wood and charcoal.

Our suggestions are worth looking into:

Attention should be paid to Mangrove swamps which is a natural and less destructive way of getting fire wood and dyes as practiced among other adjacent communities.
Large swamp projects of Mangrove initiated by the Americans along the banks of the Orugu Bridge have been quite productive.

Tree planting should also be encouraged along strategic locations like hill sides and gentle slopes and generally in down town Freetown.

Please bear in mind we are NOT Eco-Worriors. Merely Suggesting.

We recommend the introduction of mini gas cylinders for single or/and double burners as promoted in Gambia and the Republic of Guinea in virtually every home. This will decrease the demand for charcoal and wood.
