OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Hastings Farm intends to encourage the local populace
in and around Hastings in the promotion of livestock and crop production on a large and profitable scale for gross sustainability
in the name of self-sufficiency.
To introduce contract farming as done in the Developed Countries and spread
the system to adjacent communities thus helping in the creation of employment.
To discourage tree felling for the production of charcoal and fire wood
which is rapidly increasing deforestation and excessive soil erosion.
AIMS AND PROJECTIONS
We intend to start Hastings Farm with poultry, ducks and pigs and the introduction
of Turkeys and Exotic fruits and crops for the home market and for export.Other areas being looked into are Snail Farming,
Mushroom, Irish potato and Onion production plus Grass-Cutter Farming
These crops include tropical cultivars of Grapes, Apples, plums, peaches, pear,
Fig, Kiwi, Olives and local fruits like Mango, Bell apples, Cashew nuts.
The introduction of Turkey will be a very wise and sensible venture. The price tags
on these birds are beyond the average Sierre Leonean's reach. We could rear them all year round on our own formulated feed
from local crops.
Chicken and Duck production was very successful so also was the piggery. We intend
to improve on these on a very large scale.
Hatchery is a very lucrative area considering 95% of the chicks reared in Sierra
Leone are imported from Belgium. Our original hatchery was only for our own constant supply of Broiler chics and not for sale.
This area is up for consideration.
Feedmill will be an instant success. Prior to the destruction of Vidser Home Farm,
we were growing sweet potatoes, cassava (cultivar), corn, groundnut, sesami seeds and butter beans on a very large scale.
These were the bases of our poultry and animal feed formulated by our in-house chemist. We could improve on this.
